You can transfer Avaz content from one device to another using Dropbox. The devices can be either iPad or Android. This is the only method to use for transfer of content if you are using Android device(s).

This requires internet connectivity to do the transfer of content. This also requires you to have a Dropbox account, or else you will be guided to create an account.

Steps

There are 4 basic steps involved: Take a backup of Avaz in the Source device.

  1. Connect to Dropbox in the Source device.
  2. Connect to the SAME Dropbox account in the Destination device.
  3. Restore the backup in the Destination device.

Each of these steps are explained in detail below.

1. Take a backup of Avaz in the Source device

This takes a backup of the entire vocabulary present in your Avaz app to the device.

  1. For different versions of Avaz:
    1. For version 8.0 and above:
      1. Go to Menu > Settings > Backup & Restore > Create new backup (refer screenshot below)
    2. For Avaz versions 6.6
      1. Go to Menu > Settings > Backup & Restore > Create new backup (refer screenshot below)
    3. For Avaz versions below 6.6:
      1. Go to Settings > Backup & Restore > Create a new backup
  2. This creates a new backup of the Avaz content under Restore from backup section.

2. Connect to Dropbox in the Source device

This moves (synchs) all backups and exported folders from your app/device (source device) to your     Dropbox account in the Cloud.

  1. For different versions of Avaz:
    1. Avaz ver 8.0 and above: Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore>Securely save your backups to the cloud>Dropbox.
    2. Avaz ver 6.6: Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore>Securely save your backups to the cloud>Dropbox.
    3. For Avaz ver less than 6.6: Tap Settings > Backup & Restore. Turn ON Link to Dropbox option.
  2. This opens the Dropbox app if available on your device with your logged in email id. Tap the "Allow" button to sync with Dropbox.

  3. If it is not signed in, you will be prompted to Sign in. Enter your Dropbox email id (if you already have one) and password and tap the Sign In button.
    • If you wish to change the logged in ID you can select "Use a different account".
    • If you don't have a Dropbox account, create a new one and sign in as mentioned above.

  4. Once signed in, the Connect to Dropbox button is turned ON(shows green). The app creates a folder named "Avaz" in your Dropbox. The app will have access only to this folder in Dropbox.

  5. Next, the content is synchronised between the source device and Dropbox in the Cloud - i.e., all the individual backups (including the new backup) that are present in your app are moved to Dropbox.
  6. Ensure that the backups have been moved to Dropbox, by logging in to Dropbox from your computer.
    Look under Apps > Avaz.

Backups are available under Apps / Avaz folder as .avt files

Note: This process of synching may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of network and the number of backups that are to be synched. You will be able to see the backup in Dropbox once they are synched.

3.    Connect to the SAME Dropbox account in the Destination device

This transfers the backup from Dropbox (in the Cloud) to the destination device.

  1. In the destination device, connect to Dropbox:
    1. For Avaz ver 8.0 and above: Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore>Securely save your backups to the cloud>Dropbox.
    2. For Avaz ver 6.6: Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore>Securely save your backups to the cloud>Dropbox.
    3. For Avaz ver less than 6.6: go to Menu>Settings > Backup & Restore > Connect to Dropbox = ON.
  2. Follow the same process as given in step 2 above, to sign in to the SAME Dropbox account.
  3. This may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of the network. Once synched, the backup from Dropbox is moved to the destination device app.

4.  Restore the backup in the destination device.

This helps restore the backup (backed up content) to the app vocabulary.

  1. Go to Restore from Backups:
    1. For Avaz ver 8.0 and above: Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore>Restore from Backups.
    2. For Avaz ver 6.6 and above: Go to Settings > Backup & Restore > Restore from Backups.
    3. For Avaz ver less than 6.6: Go to Menu > Settings > Backup & Restore > Restore from Backups.
  2. You will be able to see the SAME backup (from the Source device) now under Restore from Backup of the destination device.
  3. Tap to select the backup that you want to restore.
  4. You are prompted to select from one of these options:
    1. Replace existing vocab...

This will replace the existing vocabulary with the new backup/vocabulary.

                ii. Add to existing vocab...

This will add (append) a new folder with the restored backup/vocabulary.
