You can transfer Avaz content from one device to another using Google Drive. This feature of using Google Drive is available from version 6.6 onward. The devices can be either iPad or Android. This is one of the methods to use for transfer of content if you are using Android device(s). The other is Dropbox

This requires internet connectivity to do the transfer of content. This also requires your Avaz to be connected to a Google Drive.

Steps

There are 4 basic steps involved: Take a backup of Avaz in the Source device.

  1. Connect to Google Drive in the Source device.
  2. Connect to the SAME Google Drive account in the Destination device.
  3. Restore the backup in the Destination device.

Each of these steps are explained in detail below.

1. Take a backup of Avaz in the Source device

This takes a backup of the entire vocabulary present in your Avaz app to the device.

  1. For different versions of Avaz:
    1. For Avaz versions 6.6 and above
      1. Go to Menu > Settings > Backup & Restore > Create new backup (refer screenshot below)
  2. This creates a new backup of the Avaz content under Menu > Settings > Backup & Restore > Your backups.
  3. For more details click here - How do I take a backup of Avaz content and what will it contain?

2. Connect to Google Drive in the Source device

This move (syncs) all backups and exported folders from your app/device (source device) to your Google Drive account in the Cloud.

  1. Avaz ver 6.6 and above:
    1. Tap Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore. Tap on the link icon to Securely save your backups to the cloud by selecting Google Drive
  2. This opens the available Google Drives on your device with your logged in email ids. Tap on the email ID of your choice to select that Google Drive.

  3. When you select the desired email ID, your Avaz is linked to that Google Drive. Please note that the Google Drives on source and destination devices have to be the same.
    • If you wish to add another account that is there on the source device but not on the destination, please select "Add another account" and add that email ID and that email ID's Google Drive.
  4. Next, the content is synchronized between the source device and Google Drive in the Cloud - i.e., all the individual backups (including the new backup) that are present in your app are moved to Google Drive.

Note: This process of syncing may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of network and the number of backups that are to be synced. You will be able to see the backup in Google Drive once they are synced.

3.    Connect to the SAME Google Drive in the Destination device

This transfers the backup from Google Drive (in the Cloud) to the destination device.

  1. In the destination device, connect to Google Drive:  Go to Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore. Tap on the link icon to Securely save your backups to the cloud by selecting Google Drive option. Note, if the device is an iOS, you will have an additonal option of iCloud. The screenshot below is of Android.
  2. Follow the same process as given in step 2 above, to sign in to the SAME Google Drive account.
  3. This may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of the network. Once synced, the backup from Google Drive is moved to the destination device app.

4.  Restore the backup in the destination device.

This helps restore the backup (backed up content) to the app vocabulary.

  1. Go to Backup and restore settings: Go to Menu> Settings > Backup & Restore > Your Backups
  2. You will be able to see the SAME backup (from the Source device) now under Your Backups of the destination device.
  3. Tap to select the backup that you want to restore.
  4. You are prompted to select from one of these options:
    1. Replace

This will replace the existing vocabulary with the new backup/vocabulary.

                ii. Append

This will add (append) a new folder with the restored backup/vocabulary.

iii. Share and Delete will help you share the backup and delete the same backup respectively.
