What happens when you edit a linked folder?

A linked folder is editable like any other folder, but any edits are applied across all linked folders. Click here to see How to edit a word / folder?

The changes to the linked folders that are applied across all linked folders are:

  1. editing words
  2. editing icon or symbol
  3. editing the color code
  4. changing icon positions (swapping / moving)
  5. Deleting items within a linked folder

If you make any changes to the items of the linked folder, it will alert you that the changes are reflected to the original folder as well as other linked locations of the original folder.

What are the Edit actions for which the behaviour in linked folder is different?

There are a few edit actions that behave differently for linked folders, where the changes need not be applied across all locations and grid sizes:

  1. Hide / unhide the linked folder
  2. Delete a linked folder

For editing the folder, tap Menu > Edit words to enter the Edit mode.

  1. Hide/Unhide the linked folder
The basic action works like it does for any other folder. Click here to see How to hide/unhide icons/folders?

However, linked folders can have custom views of the original folder, without affecting the contents of the original folder. When you hide/ unhide words within linked folders, you will get a pop up asking if you wish to apply these changes for the current folder (location) or to all the other linked folders (at all locations). Depending on your selection, the changes are applied.

Here is an example: The Numbers folder in Payment folder may look different from Numbers in Uno folder because each folder is customized to fit the specific context and purpose. See the screenshots below:

  2. Delete a linked folder

When you delete a linked folder, the folder can be deleted either in the current location or across all grid sizes.

If you delete a linked folder
    1. Tap Menu> Edit words.
    2. Select the linked folder and tap Delete icon from the top bar. A pop-up window is displayed on the screen to confirm the deletion of only the selected linked folder or all the linked folders across all Grid sizes.
    3. If you select Delete Here, only the current linked folder is deleted.
    4. If you select Delete Across Grid Sizes, all linked folders across all grid sizes are deleted.

      Deleting a parent folder

If you delete a parent folder that has other linked folders elsewhere, the parent folder and all linked folders are deleted. A pop-up message appears as shown below:
