Avaz offers two types of vocabularies:

  1. Avaz Step Up Vocabulary - introduced from Avaz ver 8.0 onwards Note that the Avaz Step Up vocabulary is currently available only if you have selected US as the Language.
  2. Avaz Classic Vocabulary (previously called Avaz Pragmatic vocabulary)

If you select Language as India, Australia, Denmark and French, the vocabulary organization is different and doesn't conform to either of the above types.

1. Avaz Step Up Vocabulary

Building further on the Classic (Pragmatic) vocabulary, this offers an improved and enhanced vocabulary for larger grid sizes, ranging from 40 pictures per screen (pps) to 117 pps. This layout not only helps with effective navigation but also gives access to rich vocabulary at all levels. There are more than 5000 words in the vocabulary. This also maintains motor patterns as you switch between the various grid sizes to access the vocabulary.

This vocabulary is differently organized with key folders being fixed at the bottom row, called Frozen row. Click here to know What is the Frozen row and how does it work?

Avaz Step Up vocabulary :  Food folder at 117 pictures per screen (grid size):

Avaz Step Up vocabulary : Food folder at 96 pictures per screen (grid size):

Avaz Step Up vocabulary : Food folder at 77 pictures per screen (grid size).

2. Avaz Classic Vocabulary (previously called Avaz Pragmatic Vocabulary)

The vocabulary encourages and facilitates a wide range of pragmatic communication and expression - e.g. greetings, expressing an opinion, asking a question, giving a response, commenting, protesting, refusing / rejecting, labeling, making a joke, agreeing / disagreeing, clarifying, instructing, expressing feelings etc.

The organization hierarchy makes it easy to implement the above pragmatics while being used by the parent as well as the child. The vocabulary progression through the levels ensures consistent word locations, without disrupting the motor pattern that has already been learnt by the child.

The vocabulary is organized as Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Level 1 vocabulary - has around 500 words and is optimized for 15 pictures per screen.

Level 2 vocabulary - has around 2000 words and is optimized for 24 pictures per screen.

Level 3 has around 2500 words and is optimized for 40 pictures per screen.

Note that it is recommended to start with Level 3 vocabulary, even for a beginner. This gives him the opportunity to explore and express himself through a wider set of vocabulary. If the child finds it difficult to deal with, then you can change it to a lower level of vocabulary.
