For Avaz version 8.0 and above:

The Frozen Row is a new feature (available from Ver 8.0 and above) that enables quicker communication through fewer taps to access frequently used words. 


NOTE: The Frozen Row is available ONLY when all these conditions apply:

  1. Selected Language is English US 
  2. Vocabulary selected is Avaz Step Up vocabulary (currently at grid size of 60 and above only)

The bottom-most row of folders remains "frozen" or fixed on the page and and stays fixed on the page, as you navigate through different folders. This contains all the key folders that are frequently required for communication and sentence construction, thereby reducing the need for an extra tap to go back to the Home page. 



Folders in the frozen row include:

- Quick, Questions, People, Actions, Time, Feelings, Places, Short Words, Describe, Quantity, Special Interest, My Stuff, My Gestalts.


How are frozen folders different from other folders?

The folders in the frozen row behave like any other folders, except for the following that cannot be changed:

- name of the folder 

- location of the folder 

- image of the folder 

However, the content within the folder can be changed. 


Different views of folders in the Frozen Row


You can maintain different views of the frozen row folders in different pages, depending on context and relevance. 


For e.g., this is the page when you tap on DESCRIBE folder from the home page. 


However, when you tap on FOOD > DESCRIBE, the screen shows only food-related descriptive words. This same folder has a customized view of the DESCRIBE folder for FOOD. 




You can further customize this view by hiding more icons on the page, as per the child's needs. When you choose to Hide icons, you can select Only Here when you are prompted about where to apply the changes. This hides icons only in this view of the frozen row folder. 



You can customize the view to this extent, where only yummy and yucky are visible when you tap FOOD > DESCRIBE. 




How does the Frozen row folders look when you navigate through the app?


Note that the content within each folder in the Frozen row can be customized to have different views for different pages. 


For e.g. if you go to Food Folder 


If you want to add the words "new bike", you can tap the word Bike, expanding it to phrases like new bike or old bike requires one tap less, as you can access the Describe folder directly with a single tap.  

 

  1. Tap on the "Transport" folder on the Home screen. The Transport folder opens up as shown below.


  2. Tap "Describe" folder at the bottom frozen row.


  3. This displays mainly all the adjectives, related to Transport, for e.g. dirty, new, clean, old etc.  Note that the rest of the descriptive words are not visible. Tap on the word "New". 


  4. Now tap on the word "Bike".


     In this way, you can make a phrase called "New Bike" in the message box.


Note:

  1. The grid size of frozen panel folders cannot be changed independently.
    E.g. If a User has set the grid size to 96 pictures per screen (8 rows x 12 columns) using Avaz Step Up and for a specific folder if the grid size is set to 77 pictures per screen (7 rows x 11 columns), the user will still see the same 12 folders in the bottom Frozen Row. 
  2. Autoback can be set-up in Frozen row
