The background color of an icon is based on the Fitzgerald key for AAC, which uses a specified set of background colors, based on the word's part of speech.  


Avaz uses a modified version of the Fitzgerald color code. Click here to read more about Color code used in Avaz. 


For Avaz version 8.0 and above:


You can change the color code of the icons in picture mode, by selecting the icon, one at a time. 


To change the color code: 

  1. In the relevant folder, tap the Menu and select Edit words button to enter the Edit mode.
  2. Tap to select the word that you want to change the background color of and tap the Change button. 
  3. This displays the Update word window which allows you to change any part of the word - the text, image, audio, background color etc.
  4. Tap Word Type to change the background color. This pops up a list of background colors that you can select from. The list displays the set of colors against each Part of Speech. Refer to What are the color codes used in Avaz?
  5. Select the color that you want and tap Save to save the changes.

Note that you cannot change the color code of a category or group of words in Avaz. You can change it one word at a time only. 


For Avaz ver 6.6+


You can change the color code of the icons in picture mode, by selecting the icon, one at a time. 

Note: You cannot change color codes of a group of icons together. 


To change the color code: 

  1. In the relevant folder, tap the Menu and select Edit words button to enter the Edit mode. (See Screenshot 1)
  2. Tap to select the word that you want to change the background color. 
  3. Tap the Change button (Screenshot 2).
  4. This displays the Edit word window which allows you to change any part of the word - the text, image, audio, background color etc. 
  5. Tap Word Type to change the background color. This pops up a list of background colors that you can select from. The list displays the set of colors against each part
  6. Select the color that you want and tap Save to save the changes.

For Avaz versions less than 6.6


You cannot change the color code of a page or across all the icons in the app, through a setting. You can only change it one word at a time. 


To change the color code of an icon: 

  1. Tap the Edit button to enter the edit mode. 
  2. Tap the word to select it.
  3. Tap the Change button.This opens the Edit window. 
  4. You will find the color code palette displayed as Color, with each color indicating the part of speech that it represents. 
  5. Select any color for the word by tapping the color code that you wish to use. 
  6. Tap the "x" at the extreme right to remove the color code altogether for the word. 
  7. Tap the Done button on the top right corner to save the changes.

Note that in the current version of Avaz (v4.2)you cannot change the color code of a category or group of words in Avaz. You can change it one word at a time only.
